Normandy FarmLearn about Normandy Farms, the estate on Alex-Bell Road built by Richard H. Grant, Sr. in the late 1920s and now owned by the United Methodist Church. Grant was a salesman whose career in Dayton began in 1904 with NCR, where he rose to National Sales Manager. In 1915 he left NCR to be General Manager of the newly formed Delco Light. In 1924 he took the job of National Sales Manager for Chevrolet and was eventually appointed to the Board of GM.

On April 14, 1865, the night of President Lincoln’s assassination, Booth’s conspirator Lewis Powell attempted to assassinate secretary of state William Seward in his home just blocks from Ford’s theater. The attack, which left Seward and his son seriously wounded, was witnessed by Seward's beloved daughter, who left an account of the "night of horrors" in her diary.
