Take a trip to Africa with us as we explore all the things that make the continent unique. From the Sahara desert in the north, the Savannah in the south, students will learn about the different habitats Africa has and the animals and people that live in them. Students will create a Giraffe Rod Puppet while learning about Africa.

The conversation will focus both on the big picture actions that need to be taken worldwide and what individuals can do at home and in the community to support real change. Mind Games: Intelligence Analysis

Spies go out into the world to collect secrets, but without analysis, there is no real meaning. Analysts comb through collected intel to find connections and patterns, sniff out deception, and give context – all while avoiding the mental traps that can skew their results. In a highly interactive program where students are polled for their decisions and observations, discuss options, and form conclusions – they will test their analytical skills, reveal their cognitive biases, and dive into the world of intelligence analysis!

Teen Beach Towel Crafts

Bring a beach towel to sit in the shade on the library lawn and learn a new craft, or have fun with a familiar one. This month’s craft is making a basket with colorful raffia. Your kit will include materials for 1 small basket. Bring a mask, beach towel, and sharp scissors. If weather is unsuitable, you will receive an email no later than 1pm that day with further instructions.

Out of the Box Engineering for Teens

Join the MIT Museum to explore the making and the engineering process in the spirit of MIT’s motto “mens et manus” (mind and hand) as you design, build, test, and iterate on your own puzzle box. Participants will explore the engineering design cycle, iteration, learning from data, the application of mathematics skills in design and engineering, and problem solving techniques. From the MIT Museum in Cambridge, MA for students entering grades 6-12. This program is on Zoom. A kit of materials will be available to pick up at the library starting June 10.
