Teens and Tweens at the Library

Teen Volunteers

Teens, grades 7-12, can become a library volunteer anytime and earn volunteer credit around their schedules. Teens can pick up an application at the library or download the application here. Once the application is completed and signed by the teen and their parent/guardian, please return it to the Youth Services Department. You will then be contacted to make an appointment for a 15-minute training session.

Once trained, volunteers can come to the library during operating hours to work on volunteer tasks which can include, but are not limited to, preparing crafts and other program materials, cleaning library materials, straightening shelves, pulling books for various purposes, being a Book Buddy, and other office tasks. They may also have opportunities to help during specific library programs. These opportunities will be scheduled with the volunteers as needed.

Teen Advisory Board

Teen volunteers are automatically welcome to participate in Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meetings but it is not required. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the moth during the school year, September through May, at 3:30 PM

TAB members help with planning, promoting, and participating in library programs and special service projects. They also receive 1 hour of community service credit per month by attending the meetings.

Teen and Tween Programs

Wright Memorial Library hosts numerous programs for teens and tweens. Tweens in grades 4-7 are welcome to come every Tuesday for Tween Hangout in the Community Room. Tweens can play games, make crafts, and hang out with friends during this fun time. This program does not run during May, August, and December.

Teens also have many opportunities to have fun at the library including trivia nights, escape rooms, and the ever-popular Exam Breaks where students are invited to hang out, eat pizza, and take a break with therapy dogs and funny videos during Oakwood exam weeks in December and May.

Check out all the teen and tween programs on the library Event Calendar.
