Dier al Assad

Meet Dr. Jamal Assadi and his wife Dalia, who are visiting Dayton from their home in Israel.  Many Americans don't realize that the population of Israel is about 20% Arab, including Muslim and Christian Palestinians, Druse, and Bedouins. Jamal, Dalia and their six children are Muslims from the town of Deir al Assad, Israel, an Arab village in the northern Galilee.  Jamal has his Ph.D. in English literature from Newcastle-on-Tyne University and is the senior lecturer in the Department of English at the Teacher's College of Sakhnin, an Israeli-Arab institution.  For ten years he has partnered with Dayton physician and author Martha Moody to coordinate an English Summer Camp for students in Deir al Assad and to bring a small number of those students to visit Dayton, where they learn about our region and about life in America.

Jamal and Dalia will be at Wright Library to share about their lives back home and to answer questions. Please join us for this inter-cultural conversation, part of Wright Library's new LET'S TALK series dedicated to in-depth conversations among neighbors
