Model Trains from the Ernest Warther Museum

All aboard to a virtual visit with the Ernest Warther Museum! You’ll be inspired by the remarkable Dover, Ohio artist who created sixty-four hand-carved, scaled and working representations of steam train history between 1905 and 1971. During the visit, Museum staff will guide kids on a soap carving craft. Pick up your program materials from Wright Library beginning Dec. 14.

Museum Description: Born in 1885 to Swiss immigrant parents, Ernest “Mooney” Warther began his carving legacy at the age of 5. His focus was the evolution of the steam engine, sculpting engines spanning the time periods from late B.C. to the introduction of diesel engines in the mid-1900s. Tour our gallery spaces with over 100 pieces in the collection and learn about the awe-inspiring life of Ernest Warther. Explore the Warther family residence, Swiss-styled gardens, historic “Calico Ditch,” 3 acre park, and Frieda Warther’s collection of over 73,000 buttons. Join us at the Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens to experience the world that captures the depth and sincerity of an artist while simultaneously bringing to life the works in the collection and the spirit of the artist himself just as he lived.

Presenter Bio: Jennie has been tour guiding with the Ernest Warther Museum for almost five years. Prior to being a guide, she was a full time educator and now continues her passion for teaching by working in the education field part time when she isn't guiding guests through the museum. She is a fantastic guide because of her passion to continue learning about the Warther Family and Warther story and truly appreciates the artistry as well as engineering behind the works.  In fact, almost her whole family is involved with the museum in one form or another!
