Local historian discusses the impact of the 1913 Great Flood
Local historian, Mark Risley, shares insight to Dayton's Great Flood of 1913 and the contributions made by Oakwood residents for rescue and recovery. He will also discuss the impact still felt today, 111 years later.
Dayton's Great Flood was caused by a series of severe winter rainstorms that hit the Midwest in late March, 1913. Within three days, the Miami Valley received almost 12 inches of rain that fell on almost frozen ground. With no place to go, levies failed and the downtown was flooded to a level of almost 20 feet.
